California officials have moved Los Angeles County and Orange County into the “orange tier” of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, meaning both counties are now free to lift certain COVID-19 restrictions.  This is exciting news as we move closer to overcoming the pandemic crisis.

Orange County will immediately begin easing restrictions, while Los Angeles will wait until Monday, April 5 to begin transitioning to the new tier.

In the orange tier, retail establishments can open indoors with no capacity limit.  However, the Los Angeles County Department of Public health has stated it will limit grocery stores to 75% capacity.

Restaurants can open indoors with a maximum of 50% capacity or 200 people, whichever is fewer.  Bars can open outdoors with modifications.

Outdoor live events, such as concerts and sporting events, can now admit patrons at 33% capacity, up from 20%.

Non-essential office workspaces can now open indoors with modifications, although state guidance provides that employers should continue to encourage telework (i.e. working from home) where possible.

Essential and critical infrastructure sectors can remain open with modifications.
