National Grandparents DayToday is National Grandparents Day.  Though not a federal holiday it is a national one and was signed into law in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter as a day to honor our grandparents and is recognized the first Sunday after Labor Day. The official song of National Grandparents Day is “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa” by Johnny Prill and the official flower is the “forget-me-not” flower.

Below are some ideas on how to celebrate this day with your grandparents:

  • Call them up and ask them about their day and tell them about yours.
  • Offer to help out with a task they need to have done.
  • Spend time looking through old photos and memory books.
  • Ask them about their lives when they were younger.
  • Share a fond memory you have with them.

Just spending time with our grandparents is so important while they are still in our lives.  Spend some time with them and enjoy everything they have to offer.  And don’t forget to wish them a Happy National Grandparents Day!!
